A KNOWN drug user jumped over a fence and fled when gardaí attempted to carry out a drugs search,  a court heard.

Daniel O’Driscoll (21), of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty at Bandon District Court to a charge of obstructing a garda drugs search.

‘He complied at first but then fled on foot and jumped over a fence and onto the Graham Norton Walk. Gardaí later caught up with him and a search of him proved negative for drugs,’ said Sgt O’Connell.

‘He told them that he ran away as he had a CBD vape and wasn’t sure was it legal.’

The court heard that he has one previous conviction for public order from 2025.

Solicitor Plunkett Taaffe said: ‘He has been homeless the past two years and is living in a tent and is on job seeker’s allowance,’ said Mr Taaffe.

Mr O’Driscoll said he had been in foster care for most of his younger life and had secured accommodation when he was 18 years of age but it didn’t work out.

Judge Joanne Carroll told Mr O’Driscoll that it would be a good idea for him to get a job but he said it is difficult to organise as he is living in a tent.

The judge remanded him on bail to March 23rd for a probation report.
