Sgt Trish O’Sullivan told the court that at 11:50pm on April 11th last gardaí observed three males acting suspiciously outside The Bell Inn bar at Ardnacrushy, Clondrohid.
‘The accused appeared nervous and gardaí decided to carry out a drugs search on him. They found a gramme of crystal powder which was identified as MDMA,’ said Sgt O’Sullivan.
‘He was too drunk to be interviewed on the night but was interviewed on August 8th under caution admitting that the drugs valued at €60 were for his own personal use.’
The court heard he has 28 previous convictions including 20 for public order and three for criminal damage but none are drug related.
Defence solicitor Patrick Goold said: ‘He’s been found on the street a number of times. He’s not aggressive and says he’s not using drugs now.’
Judge Carroll asked for a probation report to be prepared on the accused saying he clearly has an issue with alcohol and adjourned the case to April 15th.
