‘They said the accused overtook a number of vehicles on a continuous white line at a notorious blackspot where there are dangerous bends and plenty of warning signs,’ said Sgt Tom Mulcahy.
The court heard that the accused has 12 previous convictions including for the possession of drugs. Defence solicitor Plunkett Taaffe said his client had got into trouble in his late teens and is off drugs three years.
‘He is a qualified electrician and is self-employed. He overtook a car and the other driver took exception to this,’ said Mr Taaffe.
Addressing the court, Mr Holland said he has represented Ireland in boxing and very much regretted the incident.
Judge Joanne Carroll said he has done very well to overcome his drug addiction and to represent Ireland in boxing.
‘But you have to slow down,’ she said.
The judge convicted and fined him €200.
