CORK North West TD Aindrias Moynihan (FF), has welcomed the inclusion of a regional adult Eating Disorder Inpatient Centre for Cork as part of the 2026 Mental Health Capital Plan.

The national plan provides for €40.57 million in 2026 to initiate and progress 43 mental health capital projects, forming part of a wider €470 million investment programme over the next five years.

Deputy Moynihan said the prioritisation of a specialist inpatient eating disorder facility for Cork represents an important development for mental health services across the region.

‘This is a really important step forward in how we treat and support people living with eating disorders, especially those who are acutely unwell and need specialist inpatient care,’ he said.

‘For too long, families across Cork and the wider region have had to rely on private placements or travel long distances to access the right treatment. Having a dedicated public inpatient centre in Cork will mean people can receive specialist, multidisciplinary care closer to home, surrounded by their support networks.’

The new regional adult Eating Disorder Inpatient Centres are planned for Cork, Dublin and the North West.

The Capital Plan also includes wider investment across acute mental health units, community facilities and perinatal mental health services to provide wrap-around supports where needed.
