FADED lines on roadways in some parts of West Cork could yet be the cause of a fatality, according to Cllr Caroline Cronin.
The Fine Gael councillor asked, at a meeting of the West Cork Municipal District, if the council would consider buying its own line marking machine.
‘There are so many faded lines on our roads. Can we make having the lines redone a priority in 2026?’ she asked.

‘It’s not just “stop” lines on the roadways, but wheelchair accessible spaces, like those in Schull, that are so faded they are losing all effectiveness’, she added.
Cllr Joe Carroll maintained that the service the linemaking company has given Skibbereen is ‘disgraceful.’
According to the Fianna Fáil councillor, ‘no one knows if they are coming or going. The council should invest in its own road lining equipment.’
If the council had its own machine, he said they would no longer have to depend on the company who seem to operate on their own time schedule.
‘It’s not fair on people who are doing driving tests either. They just don’t know where to stop,’ said Cllr Carroll.
