CANCER survivor and author Majella O’Donnell (65) will visit Clonakilty to lend her support on Daffodil Day.
The outspoken campaigner will help boost fundraising efforts and share her remarkable story of resilience on Friday, March 20th.
Therese Hayes, organiser of Clonakilty Daffodil Day, secured the visit to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the coffee day fundraiser at DeBarra’s Folk Club.

‘We wanted to do something special and are thrilled that Majella will be joining us. I think she will attract a huge crowd. She will enjoy her stay and the people of Clonakilty and the surrounding area will be so happy to see her,’ said Therese.
Married to singer Daniel O’Donnell, Majella was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, and underwent a double mastectomy and chemotherapy as part of her treatment.
She shaved her head live on RTÉ’s The Late Late Show, sparking nationwide support that raised €550,000 for the Irish Cancer Society.
She published a book in 2015 documenting her mental health struggles, titled It’s All In The Head.
Last week on The Late Late Show, Majella spoke about a ‘very bad patch’ in 2024 when she received inpatient psychiatric care for ten weeks.
She said: ‘If you are that person who’s feeling really, really low, go to your GP. Tell them what you need.’
Therese thanked Clonakilty volunteers and supporters who helped raise more than €1 million over the years.
