CLONAKILTY Soccer Club’s impressive winning streak in the West Cork League Premier Division has come to an end.

Before last weekend’s 3-3 draw away to Dunmanway Town, the reigning champions hadn’t dropped points in the league since November 3rd, 2024 – an entertaining 4-4 home draw with Drinagh Rangers.

Clon certainly didn’t have it all their own way against a Dunmanway team that led three times, before captain Rueben Henry rescued Clonakilty with a late equaliser.

Steven Donovan gave Dunmanway the lead with an 18th-minute penalty but a spot kick from Chris Collins ten minutes later levelled matters. Conor Vassallo fired Town back in front again on 53 minutes before Joe Edmead replied to make it 2-2.

There were more twists, as Ciarán Nangle gave Dunmanway a 3-2 advantage inside the final quarter, but Rueben Henry rescued Clon six minutes from time.

Also, newly-promoted Lyre Rovers sit in third place after a 5-2 win against Castletown Celtic, a game where they were 2-0 down after 49 minutes.

Goals from Darragh Kelleher and Jack O’Callaghan fired Castletown into the lead. To Lyre’s credit, they battled back, as Finn Moroney pulled one goal back before a Matthew Lyons hat-trick inside 17 minutes turned the game on its head, Lyre now winning 4-2. Keith Nyhan finished off the game for Rovers in stoppage time. They are now level on points with Clonakilty, though Lyre have played two games more.

Bay Rovers, Beara United and Adfield are setting the pace at the top of the OBrienWaterServices.com Championship with only three points separating the teams.

Beara’s latest victory was the most eye-catching, winning 9-1 against Aultagh Celtic B. After Liam Steele gave Beara an early lead, John Barrett equalised for Aultagh. Beara moved up through the gears, as James Harrington, Daniel Mason (2) and Richard Murphy made it 5-1 at half-time. Mason completed his hat-trick before Harrington and Jonathan Rosales Harrington (2) rounded off a good day’s work.

Bay Rovers got the job done against Bunratty United, winning 1-0 thanks to a Ryan O’Boy strike. Ardfield had a similar workmanlike win over Castlelack. Conor Twomey broke the deadlock after 43 minutes but Jamie Hunt levelled the game for Castlelack at the break. Second-half goals from Ben Lenihan and Jerry McCarthy clinched the three points for Ardfield.

Skibbereen Celtic are in fourth after a 6-1 win over their near rivals Skibb AFC. A Luke O’Sullivan first-half hat-trick was the highlight as Gearoid O’Driscoll and Cian O’Brien (2) also netted. John Hodnett struck a consolation for AFC.

The top four of the Fusion Home Decor Women’s 7s League all played against each other, and they turned out to be close affairs.

League leaders Aultagh Celtic and second placed Beara United played out a goalless draw while the same scoreline applied for third placed Drinagh Rangers and fourth placed Dunmanway Town.

The thriller was between two teams in the bottom three, as Drinagh B saw off Lyre Rovers 4-3. Kellie Doolan gave Drinagh a 2-0 lead after 17 minutes before Mairead Connolly and Niamh Power levelled the game. Katie Collins fired Rangers into the lead again but Aimee Barrett goaled for battling Lyre. It was Ciara Galvin who had the last say though with a 59th minute winner for Drinagh.

Clonakilty United played, and won, their first game of the season with a 2-0 victory over Mizen. Hannah Whelton and Bernie Collins with the goals.

Despite taking a 15th minute lead through Francelina Cabral Marques, Bandon lost their third game in succession as Sullane won 2-1. Naomi Scannell got both of Sullane’s strikes as they bagged their first points.
