BANDON were denied a Cork camogie minor league title in a week Barryroe qualified for a junior A county league decider.

Favourites Milford turned in a strong second half to beat Bandon 6-11 to 2-11, after the Carbery club had led 1-8 to 2-3 at half time of their minor B league final. Clodagh Barry shone for Bandon with 0-8. Jess Bolster (1-1), Ava Mulcahy (1-0), Rhea Burns and Caoimhe O’Regan (0-1 each) were also on target for the Carbery club. Ella McCarthy, Maebh Ahern, Clodagh Barry and Caoimhe O’Regan stood out.

Elsewhere in the minor grades, Kilbree finished second in Group A of the minor C county league behind winners and semi-final qualifiers Aghada.

Laochra Óg denied Newcestown a place in the minor A county league semi-finals following a draw, 5-8 to 6-5, in Newcestown on Sunday. That outcome was enough for Laochra Óg to finish top of the group, three points clear of Newcestown. In the same grade, Courcey Rovers finished three points behind Group C winners Charleville and ahead of Ballinascarthy.

Barryroe rounded off a superb Junior A league campaign by finishing top of the table with six wins from seven fixtures. That confirmed their league final berth against second placed Bride Rovers. The sides will clash on Saturday, May 23rd.

Barryroe confirmed top spot with back-to-back wins. Caoimhe Ní Bhuachalla, Roisín Ní Bhuachalla, Ellen O’Riordan and Clíona Harte scores helped Barryroe build a 2-5 to 0-6 interval lead against St Fanahans. Three Roisín Ní Bhuachalla points, another Harte goal and an Emma Deasy effort saw Barryroe emerge 3-12 to 0-6 winners.

Next, in a preview of their upcoming league decider, Barryroe overcame Bride Rovers, 1-14 to 0-5. Goal-scorer Meabh O’Sullivan, Sarah Harrington, Sinead Walsh and Roisín Ní Bhuachalla starred in the opening half. Hannah Whelton and Caoimhe Ní Bhuachalla featured prominently in the second period.

Kilbrittain-Timoleague will contest a premier junior county league semi-final against Youghal on Monday, May 18th. The Carbery club finished top of Group B thanks to wins.

In-form Kilbree picked up their third junior B league victory following a 4-18 to 0-3 triumph at home to Kinsale. Their scorers included Mairead Crowley (1-5), Caoimhe Murphy (1-4), Aoife Dullea (2-0), Aoife O’Neill (0-4), Ava Murray, Leah McCarthy, Leanne Sheehy, Niamh McCarthy and Emily O’Donovan. 

Bandon and St Colum’s remain in junior C county league title-contention. The Lilywhites await the winners of St Colum’s and Kildorrery's quarter-final in the competition’s penultimate round.

Newcestown’s time in Division 1 of the senior county league ended following defeat to Killeagh in a relegation play-off. Emma Murphy, Lucy O’Donovan, Aisling O’Donovan and Eimer Dinneen were amongst the West Cork side’s top performers.

Courcey Rovers were denied a place in this year’s premier intermediate league Division 1 semi-finals following a 3-7 to 0-10 loss to Ballinhassig.

Into the intermediate county league where Ballinascarthy were in with a chance of making the competition’s semi-finals. Bal topped the Group B section ahead of Valley Rovers, Newtownshandrum and Aghabullogue before lining out against Midleton on Monday evening.

A tight first half saw the latter change ends 1-4 to 0-4 in front. An equally close second period went Midleton’s way with that first-half goal proving crucial in a 1-10 to 0-9 win. Siofra Pattwell was on top form for Ballinascarthy, contributing seven points. Moira Barrett added two additional white flags on an evening Pattwell, Barrett, Cork senior Millie Condon and Keala O’Driscoll were the pick of the Carbery club’s top performers.

Clonakilty’s time in the intermediate county league was ended by Aghabullogue following a relegation play-off in Coachford on Monday night.
