RIVERSIDE Athletic U14 schoolgirls booked their place in the second round of the SFAI U14 Schoolgirls National Cup last weekend.
The West Cork Schoolboys and Schoolgirls League side had home advantage for the visitor of Mallow United to Carbery Park.
A scoreless first half preceded a much more open second period in which Riverside outscored their Cork Schoolgirls League opponents. Annabella McCarthy twice found the net to cement a deserved 2-1 Athletic victory.

Elsewhere in the Cork section of the SFAI Schoolgirls National Cups, Lyre Rovers had to give St Mary’s a walkover in the U14 schoolgirls first round. Drinagh Rangers progressed in the U16 Schoolgirls Cup without having to kick a ball following a walkover from Carrigtwohill.

The draws for the second round of the SFAI Schoolboys National Cup – Cork section have been confirmed. The weekend of October 18th-19th has been pencilled in for completion of all second-round ties.
Clonakilty AFC Rovers’ reward for overcoming Lismore is a U12 Schoolboys National Cup second round tie at home to Crosshaven AFC. In the same competition, Castlelack Celtic travel to the winners of Rockmount and Buttevant while Riverside Athletic host Leeds.
All four remaining West Cork clubs in the U13 Schoolboys National Cup will be on the road in round two.
Riverside Athletic defeated Cappoquin Railway 7-5 in the first round and will travel to Carrigaline United. Clonakilty AFC’s reward for knocking out Valley Rovers (4-3) is an away tie at Douglas Hall A. Ardfield, who beat Los Zarcos 5-1, are in Ballincollig while Castlelack travel to Mallow United A.
Drinagh Rangers will travel to Carrigaline United and Dunmanway Town to Fermoy in round two of the SFAI U14 Schoolboys National Cup. Two other WCSSL sides have been drawn at home. Riverside Athletic host Mayfield and Clonakilty AFC welcomes Wilton United to Ballyvackey.
Castlelack’s 5-2 first round defeat of Wilton A has set up a U16 Schoolboys National Cup second round clash at home to Corinthians A. In the same competition, Dunmanway Town host Carrigaline A and Ardfield welcome Midleton to the Showgrounds.
Any West Cork club who lost their opening round National Cup ties will get a second chance glory with automatic entry into the Schoolboys National Trophy competitions.
