THERE will be plenty of West Cork interest on and off the pitch in the Sigerson Cup that burst into life this week.

MTU Cork have former county-winning Castlehaven boss James McCarthy as their boss for the 2026 season.

There is more Haven involvement in the MTU Cork squad, with Micheál Maguire and Sean Browne, while West Cork numbers are boosted by Castletownbere’s Fintan Fenner, Keith O’Driscoll of Gabriel Rangers, Padraig Healy from St Oliver Plunkett’s, O’Donovan Rossa’s Luca Harte, Tadhg MacCarthaigh young gun Luke Shorten and Bantry Blues star Dara Sheedy.

UCC have nine West Cork players involved in their panel including four from Clonakilty in Dan Peet, Darragh Gough, Conor Daly and Chris Kenneally. Also involved are the Castlehaven duo of Robbie Minihane and Thomas O’Mahony, while Ciarán Santry (Carbery Rangers) and Olan Corcoran (St Mary’s) round off the list.

University of Limerick have involvement from Newcestown sharpshooter David Buckley and Gabriel Rangers star Paddy O’Driscoll, while MTU Kerry can call upon Cillian O’Brien of Bantry Blues and Danny Walsh from Castletownbere.

Round one of the college competition took place this week with round two commencing next week.
