ALL hail, St James! The Saints were crowned Rebel Óg U13 Hurling Group 3A Phase 2 Shield champions after getting the better of Kilshannig, 1-13 to 2-7, in the final.

In a very physical game St James settled quickly and raced into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead. They continued to win plenty of ball around the middle and were content to take their points to lead at half time, 0-8 to 0-2.

St James started the second half in determined fashion, scoring 1-3 without reply. Kilshannig then roared into the game, and quickly reduced the deficit to six points, 1-12 to 1-6. Some super saves and great defending kept Kilshannig at bay.

St James battled hard and created multiple scoring chances but some good saves from the Kilshannig keeper kept them in touch. A quick-fire 1-1 from Kilshannig cut the lead to two points with seven minutes remaining, 1-12 to 2-7.

Despite the frantic pace, St James managed to hold their nerve and a few slick passes produced a great team score to extend the lead to three points, 1-13 to 2-7. There was still work to be done as Kilshannig launched multiple long balls into the square but St James held firm to secure a well-deserved victory.
