WHAT a first year it’s been for the Adrigole/Urhan U16 amalgamation!

They capped off an amazing debut campaign by beating Aghinagh in the Rebel Óg U16 Division 3 Football Championship final in Kilmichael.

Not only that, but they won their fourth piece of silverware in this calendar year.

1-5 to 1-1 up at half-time, they drove that advantage home in the end.

Despite being up by three with ten minutes to go, Adrigole/Urhan found an extra gear to claim the county championship trophy and complete the quadruple.

Along with the county title, they won the West Cork Division 3 Football Championship, the West Cork Division 2a3 league crown and the Beara Football Championship.

After months of hard work, commitment, and pure determination, they were crowned county champions. This incredible group have shown what teamwork, dedication, and love for the game can achieve.

This year marked the first year of a new partnership between Urhan and Adrigole at U16 level. Both came together due to a lack of numbers in the respective clubs. The newly formed squad consisted of 18 players. What followed was an unforgettable season.

They progressed to the county final by winning the West Cork.

That championship started with a thrilling draw at home to Ilen Rovers (4-11 to 4-11), a game that showed the team’s grit and scoring ability. This was followed by an impressive victory over Gabriel Rangers in Ballydehob and a walkover from Kilbrittain, which saw Adrigole/Urhan top the group and advance to the West Cork final.

In the final held in Bantry on September 1st, the team rose to the occasion, overcoming Ilen Rovers 2-13 to 1-7 in a strong display.

The team played for each other that day, fought for every ball and trusted themselves and the work they had put in. A performance to be proud of.

The first piece of silverware to get the ball rolling was in a competition that began back in March, with their Rebel Óg West Division 2a3 league campaign.

An emphatic away win over Ilen Rovers in Rath set the tone for what would be a strong league run. Convincing victories followed against Tadhg na nGael, Uibh Laoire and Gabriel Rangers. The only loss of the league came in a tough outing against Castletownbere, but Adrigole/Urhan bounced back superbly. That resilience was on full display in the league final, held on June 23rd in Kealkill, where Adrigole/Urhan produced a brilliant all-round performance to defeat Castletownbere 7-15 to 2-6.

In the midst of their success was the Beara Football Championship, The Jerry Hurley Cup.

On October 1st in Eyeries, the team lined out in the divisional final, facing familiar rivals Castletownbere. What followed was perhaps the most complete performance of the year, with Adrigole/Urhan storming to a 6-13 to 0-10 victory in front of a proud home crowd.

It was the dream debut season for Adrigole/Urhan, led by coaches Joe Downing, Derek Mulcahy, Brian Crowley, Charlie O’Sullivan and Clare O’Shea.

The Adrigole/Urhan U16 team included Conor Crowley, Rory Mulcahy, Adam O’Sullivan, Doire Murphy, Luke Mason, Timmy O’Sullivan, Kieran O’Shea, Conor Downing, Rossa Coyle, Killian Lynch, James O’Driscoll, Sam Power, Neilan O’Sullivan, Darragh Hartnett, Harry Downing, Aidan O’Sullivan, Ronan Crowley and Jack O’Connor.
