AOIFE Callan set four new personal bests on her way to All-Ireland gold in the U20 women’s pentathlon at the recent Irish U20 Indoor Combined Events Championships.
The Bandon AC athlete underlined her reputation as one of the country’s most promising young multi-event competitors with another impressive performance at the National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown.
After winning silver in this event last year, Aoife – now in her second year at U20 level – has added gold to her growing collection.

Competing in one of athletics’ most demanding disciplines, she excelled across all five pentathlon events – 60m hurdles, long jump, shot put, high jump and 800m – delivering a composed and consistent series to secure the national title.

She clocked a personal best of 9.60 seconds in the 60m hurdles, cleared a PB of 1.53m in the high jump and threw a PB of 9.29m in the shot put. Those performances, along with her other event scores, contributed to an overall points personal best of 3,141, which was enough to see the talented Bandon athlete take top spot on the podium.
Aoife’s latest success marks another milestone in a steady upward trajectory that has seen her qualify for national championships every year since U11, as well as consistently medal at national level in the javelin.
In recent seasons she has broadened her focus to combined events, showing the versatility, resilience and technical ability required to thrive in multi-event competition.
This national pentathlon title represents an impressive start to her combined events season and further highlights her potential for continued development at the highest level.
Over the coming months, Aoife will focus mainly on individual competitions. Alongside pentathlon disciplines, she is set to compete in javelin and 200m events as she builds towards the outdoor heptathlon later in the year.
