FIONA Everard produced her best-ever display at the World Cross Country Championships to finish 23rd in the senior women’s 10k race in Tallahassee, Florida.
The Bandon AC athlete, who was 60th at this event two years ago and tenth at the recent European Cross Country Championships, delivered another run to be proud of, passing eight athletes in the final 4km.
‘It was definitely a tough course, with all the elements they added to it making it a bit tougher,’ the Enniskeane woman said.

‘The biggest worry was trying to pace it right and not blow up. We wanted to come through the field and I think we managed to do that quite well. I was really happy with it; that was fun!’
Everard finished just behind fellow Cork woman Niamh Allen (Leevale AC) who finished 21st, just holding off Everard who she just outsprinted in the final 100 metres.
