THE SuperValu West Cork Schoolboys and Schoolgirls League’s Schoolboys Challenge Cups produced plenty of goals across six age grades last week.
Dunmanway Town and Lyre Rovers produced a marvellous SuperValu U12 Schoolboys Challenge Cup round of 16 tie at the Meadows.
Neither team, despite valiant efforts, could find the net during end-to-end normal and extra-time periods. A 0-0 draw meant penalties were needed.

Town missed their first two attempts, handing Lyre an advantage. Yet, Dunmanway never looked back once netting their third spot kick to run out 3-2 winners. Ciaran O’Farrell, Eoin Healy and Conor O’Sullivan stood out for Dunmanway.
Rory Harrison, Hughie McAuley and Ben Forristal strikes cemented a Clonakilty AFC Wanderers 3-1 cup win at home to Sullane. Darragh Morris replied for the visitors.
Two first half goals secured Skibbereen Dynamos a 2-0 U12 Schoolboys Challenge Cup win at home to Bunratty United Reds.
Jimmy McDonagh and Charlie Leung found the net with Jack McCarthy, Ruan Cronin and Rua Coppinger also playing well. Quintin Horstmanshoff, Sonny Cleary and Ross McSweeney stood out for Bunratty.
Castlelack Celtic knocked Riverside Athletic out of the cup following a convincing round of 16 win in Brinny. Gearóid Linehan, Nicholas Lynch, Gavin Kerr, Charlie O’Leary, Kieran Hickey, Rohan Santos and Simon Crewe were all on target.
Those results have confirmed the U12 Schoolboys Challenge Cup quarter-finals lineup.
Skibbereen Dynamos host Beara United while the winners of Drinagh Diamonds and Castlelack Rangers will take on Clonakilty AFC Wanderers. Dunmanway Town welcome Lyre Rovers Black to the Meadows in the same round Castlelack Celtic and Clonakilty AFC Rovers will clash in Brinny.

Five different scorers, Tadhg O’Donovan, Diarmuid Sutton, Tadhg Kinsella, Oran Keane and Conor O’Sullivan found the net in Drinagh Diamonds’ 5-2 SuperValu U13 Schoolboys Challenge Cup quarter-final victory at home to Bay Rovers.
Iarla McElhinney and Oskar Usthanowski (penalty) were on target for Rovers. The Diamonds will face either Clonakilty AFC United or Dunmanway Town in the penultimate round.
Kilmichael Rovers and Ardfield Mountaineers produced a seven-goal thriller in the SuperValu U13 Shield quarter-finals at Inchisine.
Alex O’Brien (two), Oisin Cullinane and Conor Browne netted in the Mountaineers 4-3 victory. Tom Hallahan, Liam Murphy and Jack Crowley (penalty) were on target for Rovers.

A single Joey Bennett goal was enough to earn Bunratty United a place in the last four of this year’s U14 Schoolboys Shield.
United overcame Bay Rovers 1-0 thanks to Bennett’s strike plus Donagh Griffin, Eddie Bennett and Jack Drinan’s combined efforts. Christopher O’Flynn, Charlie Allen and Tommy Farley stood out for Rovers.
Skibbereen Dynamos qualified for the U14 Schoolboys Challenge Cup semi-finals thanks to a penalty shoot-out win at home to Beara United.
Ryan Jennings fired Skibbereen ahead only for a Doire Murphy leveller to make it 1-1. No further goals in extra-time sent the tie to penalties where Dynamos emerged 4-2 winners.
That outcome has sent Skibb into a last four meeting with Clonakilty AFC Reds. Dunmanway Town will take on Castlelack in the second semi-final.

We are down to the last four in this season’s U15 Schoolboys Challenge Cup. Castlelack will host Beara United and Drinagh Rangers will travel to Skibbereen Dynamos.
Moving up an age-grade, Castlelack’s U16s travelled to Kealkill and overcame Bay Rovers 4-1 following an entertaining SuperValu U16 Schoolboys Challenge Cup semi-final.
Max Leahy scored for the home team but two goals in either half, including one from current WCSSL Player of the Year, Jack Allen, earned Castlelack a cup final berth. Despite the loss, Owen Myler, Thomas English, Sam Mullany and Fionn Wiseman impressed for Bay.
On the opposite side of the draw, Drinagh Rangers will be Togher Celtic’s opponents in the penultimate round. Rangers defeated Kilmichael Rovers 5-1 at Canon Crowley Park where Finbarr O’Riordan netted Kilmichael’s solitary goal.
