SKIBBEREEN moved closer to safety in Munster Junior League Division 1 after a crucial 33-10 home victory over Mallow.

David Shannon scored two tries and three conversions for Skibb, while Jonathan Benn, Oisin Dinan and Donnacha Maguire got a try each.

The West Cork club, who have two games left, are now four points clear of the relegation zone. A win away to an already-relegated Muskerry this Sunday (2.30pm) will seal survival. On March 8th, Skibb are home to Clanwilliam in their final game of the league.

Mallow dropping points last weekend is also good news for fifth-place Bandon who are in the shake up for a top four spot and an All-Ireland Junior Cup place for next season. With Richmond playing Mallow, it means a bonus-point win at home to Kilfeacle this Sunday (2.30pm) would confirm Bandon’s top-four place.

Clonakilty, in second place in Division 1, finish their campaign at home to Sunday’s Well on Saturday (4pm). Clon are already guaranteed a top-four finish and will look to round off their league in style.
