THE Cork U16A, U16B and U14s enjoyed another productive weekend of Munster LGFA Championship performances and results.

The Cork U16As had to overcome a 1-4 to 1-3 half time deficit before turning things around in the second half by beating Clare 5-13 to 2-5 in Cloughduv in their Munster championship clash.

Shauna Keane (1-7) and Isabelle O’Callaghan (2-2) top scored for a Cork team that also had Kilmacabea’s Nell Kinsella, Evie McMahon (1-1 each), Abbie Ni Scannlain and Ciara Hanrahan (0-1 each) on their scoreboard.

Ailbhe Byerley (Clonakilty), Aoife McCarthy (Castlehaven), Lucy Kelleher (Kinsale), Roisin O’Sullivan (Castlehaven), Aoife Harte, Aoife Walsh and Mairead Whelton (all Ibane Ladies) are the other West Cork players on the Cork U16A panel.

‘We never really got going in the first half when we played into a light breeze,’ Cork U16A manager Ioannis O’Connell informed The Southern Star.

‘There were a lot of errors and mistakes and we found ourselves a point down at half time.

‘A few changes saw players come on and make a huge impact off the bench. We continued to make changes throughout the second half and got everyone out on the pitch.

‘There are lots of things we have to work on. To be fair to the girls, our second half performance was top notch. The girls have a great attitude and showed real character to turn things around.

‘We played the way we want Cork to play, expressing themselves and showing off all their skills.’

This victory made it three consecutive Munster LGFA wins out of three for O’Connell’s squad.

Next up is a trip to Austin Stack Park in Tralee and a meeting with old rivals Kerry on Saturday.

The Kingdom matched Cork’s record of three consecutive championship victories with an impressive 4-15 to 0-12 win away to Tipperary at Sean Treacy Park. Limerick and Waterford played out an entertaining 2-11 to 2-11 draw on the same afternoon.

John Callaghan’s Cork U16Bs produced a superb team display to see off Clare, 5-7 to 0-6, in the Munster LGFA Sharon O’Keefe tournament at Cloughduv.

Beara’s Michaela Moynihan (2-1), Emily Carey (2-0) and Meabh Ní Cheilleachair (1-3) provided the bulk of the winners’ scores. Ibane Ladies Niamh Doyle and Ava Murphy (0-1 each) were also on target.

Clonakilty’s Sally McCauley saved a penalty on an afternoon Kate Collins (Ibane Ladies), Kate O’Mahony (Bandon) and Grace O’Sullivan (Tadhg Mac Cárthaigh) were the other West Cork players on Cork’s U16B panel.

‘We were delighted to get a third win on the bounce,’ Cork U16B Manager John Callaghan said.

‘We were really pleased with our second half performance today against Clare. I thought our subs had a great impact on the game. That shows the strength of our squad and the high number of quality players that Cork has.’

Elsewhere in the Sharon O’Keefe tournament, Kerry edged Tipperary by three points, 3-7 to 2-7. Limerick proved too strong for Waterford, winning 3-11 to 0-4.

As with their Cork U16A counterparts, the Cork U16Bs travel to Kerry for round four of what’s proving to be an entertaining tournament.
