CARBERY RANGERS: The U16 boys are playing in the Rebel Óg West Football Championship Div 2 Final against Owen Gaels on Sunday in Clonakilty (11.30am).

ILEN ROVERS: The ladies club had the honour of hosting the inaugural Donal (Dano) O’Driscoll Memorial Tournament in Church Cross last Saturday morning. Dano was one of the founding members of Ilen Rovers and served many roles in the club throughout his lifetime. He would be very proud of the fine football and skill on display. Clann na nGael, Kilmacabea and Tadhg MacCarthaigh joined Ilen Rovers in the tournament and Padraig O’Driscoll, son of Dano, presented the cup to Ilen Rovers’ captain Hannah Collins, when the team came out on top. All teams were presented with medals and a souvenir programme by club hero Kate Carey, who is an inspiration to our younger players. Thanks to Ciarán Cronin and Seán O’Neill for refereeing, to all the organisers and parents and to Dano’s family for sponsoring this tournament. We look forward to keeping his memory alive for years to come. Well done to the U8 girls in their mini games against Kilmacabea (hosts) and Tadgh MacCarthaigh last Saturday morning. Thanks to our U8 coaches and mentors, Michelle Kiely, Orla Lee, Maeve O’Sullivan and Cáit Keohane, who have helped train and guide these young girls throughout the season. The U14 boys lost out to Aghinagh last Friday, 1-14 to 2-6 in Inchigeelagh. They qualified for both their league and championship finals this year. Well done to the coaches John, Edward, Mairtín, Alan and Donna. The U10 Boys played games against Castlehaven away last Thursday. The U8 Boys played out a series of games against Castlehaven the same evening in Rath. The club are delighted to be hosting the annual John D Whooley Memorial Cup U10 tournament next Sunday in Church Cross (11am), commencing with a parade of the participating teams, which include Kilmacabea, Clann na nGael and St James, followed by two semi-finals, the shield final and cup final. The U12 boys team play St Colum’s next Saturday in the West Cork final. Please follow social media for details.

KILMEEN/KILBREE: The Kilbree junior camogie team has qualified for the county final against Barryroe in Castle Road on Sunday, October 5th after beating Nemo Rangers 3-13 to 1-10 in the semi-final on Saturday in Rossmore. Nemo had defeated Kilbree twice earlier in the season, including the league final. Kilbree had a great first-half both defensively and in attack. Mary Murphy opened the scoring with an early goal. Further Kilbree scores came from Mairead Crowley, Caoimhe Murphy and Aife O’Neill and they led 1-9 to 0-6 at half-time. A big display in the second-half was vital. The junior B hurling team lost their final group game against Bantry Blues, 1-14 to 0-11, in Dunmanway on Saturday. Kilbree’s scores came from Ogie Scannell, Jonathan Deasy, Jason Murray and Conor O’Sullivan. The team was unlucky to lose out on a semi-final spot on scoring difference.
