Clonakilty GAA Notes

IT was a disappointing weekend on the playing pitch with the two competitive games played resulting in narrow defeats.

First into action was an experimental U21 football team who overcame a Kilbrittian side in a useful challenge game played on Saturday evening. Further challenge games are scheduled before their opening West Cork championship game against O'Donovan Rossa.

The senior team faced a tough challenge in their Division 1 game with an away game against reigning league champions Nemo Rangers. Despite having to name an under strength side due to a number of injuries and illness Clon put in a very encouraging performance. The sides were level entering the final ten minutes before Nemo pulled away with the final three scores to win 1-12 to 1-9.

The intermediate side played Grenagh on Sunday afternoon in Ahamilla. They also put in a very competitive performance against a physically bigger side. The concession of the only two goals proved to be the difference as Grenagh won 2-9 to 0-9.

The seniors are schedule to play St Finbarr’s in Ahamilla on Sunday at 2.30pm while the intermediate game is provisionally fixed for Saturday night against Gabriel Rangers in Ballydehob.

The Cork GAA Clubs draw will take place in Ahamilla on tonight (Thursday) at 9pm in Ahamilla. All are invited to attend.

There was no winner of the lotto held on Saturday 18th February for €5,200. The numbers drawn were 1, 6, 26 and 31. Lucky dip winners of €40 each: John Horan Tawnies Lower, Carmel Kingston Richfordstown, Laurenza McCarthy c/o Atkins, Pat Sutton 8834234, Anna Haida Fernhill Drive, E & D O Regan Clonlea. Next week’s jackpot is €5,400.
