First-half goals lay foundation for impressive win
FIRST-HALF goals from Sean McEvoy and Cork senior footballer Tom Clancy set-up Clonakilty’s South West JAHC final win against Ballinascarthy at Timoleague on Sunday evening.
Clon, who last won the title in 2015, led 2-13 to 1-5 at half-time against their neighbours, and while Bal fought back in the second half it was never enough.
Michael Kirby scored Bal’s goal in the fourth minute and they did lead 1-2 to 0-1 early on, but inspired by man of the match Tom Clancy, Clonakilty took control. Clancy scored 1-5 while Cork footballer Sean White scored seven points, five from frees.
Jeremy Ryan led a Bal comeback in the second half and they did get the lead down to six points – but Clon stood firm to claim a record 16th South West JAHC title.
