BRAGGING rights went to Bandon AFC, as well as a place in round two of the FAI Junior Cup, after they overcame their West Cork derby against Drinagh Rangers on Sunday.
This round-one clash was scoreless after 90 minutes but burst into life in extra time. Two goals in quick succession, from Paul Nnotum and Brian O’Donoghue, fired Bandon into a 2-0 lead before Denzil Fernandes pulled one back for Drinagh. It stayed 2-1 to Bandon, who advanced to a second-round date with Ringmahon Rangers.
Midweek, Drinagh Rangers won their derby against Drinagh Rangers B to hit top spot in the PremierHiSpecCars.com WCL Premier Division.

Goals from Morgan Sloggett (penalty), Stephen Crowley and Pádraig Cronin saw Drinagh lead 3-0 early in the second half before Denis O’Driscoll pulled a late goal back for the B side. It finished 3-1, as Drinagh moved two points ahead of Clonakilty Soccer Club (who have a game in hand) and three points in front of Togher Celtic.
Drinagh’s final league game is away to defending champions Clon, who must play Togher Celtic before that. But if Drinagh beat Clon, they will secure the league title.
Meanwhile, Beara United hit top spot in the OBrienWaterServices.com WCL Championship after hammering promotion rivals Bay Rovers 6-1 – a result that saw Beara leapfrog both Bay and Bunratty United to take over at the summit.
Declan Dunne scored a hat-trick for Beara, while Daniel Mason (2) and Richard Murphy were also on target. Callum McElhinney replied for Bay Rovers, who sit on 36 points alongside Bunratty but have played two games more. Beara United moved to 38 points and have played two games fewer than Bay, but the same number as Bunratty – it’s extremely tight at the top, with the promotion race still very much alive.

Goals from Julia Hegarty (2) and Danielle Jackson fired Aultagh Celtic to the Fusion Home Decor WCL Women’s 7s Championship title on Sunday, as they beat Bandon 3-2.
Aultagh raced into a 3-0 lead before Bandon pulled two goals back through Grace O’Reilly and Laura Cummins.
‘From number 1 to 19 this year, every single player has been outstanding, putting everything on the line at all times for the good of the team. They are a group any manager would love to work with, and I get that pleasure every week,’ said a delighted manager John Kennefick.
Aultagh, with a 100 percent record, topped the Championship table ahead of Sullane, Bandon and Clonakilty United.
Meanwhile, there were two draws in the Fusion Home Decor WCL Women’s 7s Premier Division, leaving four teams locked on four points. Dunmanway Town drew 0–0 with Beara United, while Lyre Rovers and Drinagh Rangers shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, Áine Collins opening the scoring for Drinagh before Niamh Power equalised.
