AS Barryroe celebrated their fantastic Munster and county junior B camogie double in style, thoughts have already turned to taking the next step in 2026.
Last season was one to remember as Barryroe swelled their trophy cabinet, and joint-captain Emma Deasy feels it’s important to enjoy the good days before fully shifting focus to the future.
‘It was so amazing to have everyone there,’ Deasy said, reflecting on Barryroe camogie’s night of celebration at the Courtmacsherry Hotel.

‘It’s not too often that we get everyone together celebrating being Munster and county champions. It was such a successful year and hopefully we can push on in 2026.
‘You have to look back at those achievements and celebrate these moments. That’s what drives the next victories, please God.’

Manager Tom Farrell was the man with the Midas touch in 2025, but he has stepped back from the sideline this year. While a new management team has yet to be announced, the goal at junior A remains the same – keep winning.
‘We don’t have Tom this year but we will have a new management team coming in. Hopefully we can do Tom justice,’ Deasy said.
‘We are aiming to push forward. We’ll drive on again and hopefully be as competitive in junior A and continue that success.
‘We played in the junior A league last year, made the league final but lost to Blarney. We know the quality of teams there, we know what the challenge is and we’re ready to step up to that.’

A higher quality of opposition should help Barryroe raise their game, too. They will face clubs like Blarney, Bride Rovers and Buttevant, as well as Carrigaline, who are coming down from premier junior. It’s a tough grade, but the West Cork club is excited about the challenge.
‘We played at junior A before but got relegated. I think we proved a point last year that we can do it. We know we can perform as a team. Our squad will be the same so hopefully we can announce ourselves in junior A,’ Deasy added.
‘The main goal at the start of the season is to do as well as we can. Obviously, to win it would be the icing on the cake. We’ll take it game by game. We will be strong contenders up there.’

Barryroe were without inter-county minor Maria O’Donovan for their Munster campaign due to an ACL injury but, all going well, she will be back for the championship.
Other players such as Róisín Ní Bhuachalla, Hannah Whelton and Ellen O’Riordan also stepped up during the Munster run.
The good news is that the squad is ready to go again in 2026.
‘Thankfully, we haven’t really lost anyone. If anything, we’ll be gaining players. Players from minor and U16 will be coming up into the adult squad. Everyone should be stronger and fitter going into this season,’ Deasy added.
