Letters to EditorSIR – We hope ‘Gerry sans Frontieres’ won’t be going all rebel on us again when Charles and Camilla soon come to visit our shores. The Shinners made a right hames

of it when Her Nibs graced our republic last time with their ridiculous flag-waving and misreading of the mood of the nation. Their shouting was almost audible here in Cork.

But with Gerry and his friends, there is no telling what they’ll do next in order to show us how much more Irish they are than us mere west Brits, who see them

for what they really are. Sinn Féin can be trusted to carry out all threats and promises, whichever comes first.

But there will be exceptions, like the vow to do away with water charges as soon as they enter government. This will not happen if we vote them in for this ‘reason’ or any other.

Yet they could well be in a position to disrupt and embarrass a visiting ageing prince and his wife who are coming here in the spirit of goodwill.

They are good at this sort of thing.

That is the measure of their uber-Irishness.

Robert Sullivan,

Bantry.
