Firefighters battled a blaze at a fish factory at Rath near Baltimore this morning.

Fire tenders from Skibbereen, Bantry and Schull, are still tackling the fire, which sent huge clouds of smoke across the hillsides, but there is already more support on the way.

Just before lunch crews from Mallow, Midleton and Ballylickey were drafted in.

The pupils at nearby Rath National School were evacuated because there were fears that the fumes may be harmful and the school principal, Maura Collins, said the evacuation was carried out with brisk efficiency.
