THE current Post Office in Union Hall is slated for closure on July 1st.
Cork South West TD Jim Daly said the current post office would close when the owners retire.
However, he said he has been working closely with An Post to ensure that a post-office facility would remain available in the busy fishing village.
The deputy said he had been in contact with An Post and was delighted to report that ‘a contract to continue the delivery of services has been advertised’.
He told The Southern Star: ‘I look forward to seeing the Post Office in Union Hall continuing under new management and wish the current owners every happiness in their retirement.’
When contacted for a comment a spokesperson for An Post said: ‘I am glad to confirm that there is no plan to close Union Hall Post Office.
‘On the contrary, we are looking for a retail partner to run the office there.’
