KINSALE is gearing up for its annual influx of tourists with hotels and guest houses reporting an increase in bookings for the coming months.

The positive news was shared at a recent network evening of the Kinsale Chamber of Tourism and Business which represents 120 businesses in the gourmet town and surrounding area.

The increase in numbers through Cork Airport, along with Kinsale anchored as the gateway of the Wild Atlantic Way has had a very positive impact on tourism, the gathering was told.

At its Summer Networking Evening at the Trident Hotel, the group launched a new membership drive with special introductory rates for new members and a Festivals and Events category on kinsale.ie.

‘We hope to involve as many Kinsale businesses as possible, to work together and keep Kinsale at the forefront of the domestic and international tourist market,’ said incoming chairman Ciarán Fitzgerald, one of the proprietors of The Blue Haven Collection.

‘Our new tagline “Together, Kinsale is Better,” reinforces our collective efforts across all business areas in the town and surrounding areas. Our proximity to Cork city and particularly Cork Airport brings connectivity on a greater scale and we look forward to welcoming more visitors from the USA and Europe this year, along with the all year round vital domestic market,’ he added.

A number of festivals and events are now listed on www.kinsale.ie and the site has over 750,000 hits per annum. Headline events include  ‘Take Five’ a contemporary visual arts exhibition (June 10th-July 21st), the O’Leary Life Sovereign’s Cup at Kinsale Yacht Club (June 21st-24th) and a new literary weekend ‘Words on Water’ (October 6th-8th).
