THE people of Kinsale are used to seeing super yachts but a real ‘superyacht’, the ‘Galileo G’, arrived in the harbour this week.

The massive yacht makes for a fine spectacle on the seascape, in the heart of the town. People were flocking to the water’s edge on Tuesday and Wednesday to check out the 55m beauty that can accommodate 10 guests and 12 crew. The ‘Galileo G’ is a motor yacht that was custom-built in 2011 by the Perini Navi Group. It has been greatly admired for its steel hull and aluminium superstructure, complete with a beam of 10.40m, and a 3.00m draft.

It is powered by two caterpillar engines and has a cruising speed of 11 knots, but is capable of 14 knots, giving it a range of 9,000 nautical miles from her 150,000 litre fuel tanks.
