The sod was turned earlier today at the site of the new Macroom Garda Station at Gurteenroe in Macroom which will serve as the new Divisional HQ for the Cork County Garda Division.

The Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, Jim O’Callaghan, the Minister of State with
responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran and Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly attended the sod turning event to mark the commencement of the construction of the new garda station, which is expected to be completed by the second half of 2028.

The proposed state of the art facility represents a significant investment in policing, community safety and public infrastructure for the south.

The project consists of the development of a two, three and four-storey building with three standalone single-storey ancillary buildings and secure parking facilities. The new facility will comprise of 4,338 square metres of modern offices, conference facilities, staff support areas and custody suites, ensuring that An Garda Síochána is equipped to meet the needs of the community now and into the future.

Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly said that the commencement of works on the new Macroom Garda Station is an important milestone for both An Garda Síochána and the local community.
'This development reflects a significant capital investment in policing infrastructure and will provide Garda personnel with modern, fit-for-purpose facilities to support the delivery of a responsive, community-focused policing service across Macroom and the wider County Cork area.'
