West Cork resident Ian Bailey was arrested in Dublin earlier today, and later released on bail, following the endorsement of an extradition warrant regarding the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier in Cork, exactly 23 years ago next week.

Mr Bailey denies the killing of Ms du Plantier. However, a court in France convicted him of the murder last May.

Mr Bailey resides at The Prairie, Liscaha, Schull.

A garda spokesperson told The Southern Star today:  'An Garda Síochána can confirm a male has been arrested on foot of a European Arrest Warrant today Monday 16th December 2019. The man will appear before the High Court this afternoon. No further information is available at this time, as the matter is before the Courts.'
