THERE’S one very proud mammy in Bantry this week who is looking forward to a special night out later this summer.

Annette Sullivan’s daughter Áine has been chosen to represent Germany at this year’s Rose of Tralee festival.

‘We’re all delighted here and very proud of Áine,’ said Annette, from Reendonegan. ‘We’ll have to start organising now for our trip to Tralee.’

Áine (21) was born and lived in Germany for many years, but attended Colaiste Pobail Bheanntraí from the age of 14 until she completed her Leaving Cert, before returning to Germany.

It was at a ceremony in Frankfurt-Höchst, which is a partner town for Co Kerry, at the Schlossfest (Castle Festival), that Áine was selection to represent Germany with the Mayor of Tralee attending the festivities.

The German Rose is now busy preparing for her trip to Ireland. Speaking to The Southern Star from her home in Dusseldorf, Áine said: ‘I’m busy putting together sponsorship and getting to grips with all that needs to be done before I get to Tralee. But I am really looking forward to the event and to seeing all my family and friends.’

The Rose of Tralee International Festival takes place from Wednesday August 16th to Monday August 22nd.
