THE annual autumn cattle show and sale at Bandon Mart last week attracted a large entry of quality cattle.
All seven classes in the show ring were favourably commented on by the judge, Jim Horgan of Dawn Meats. Most notable were the Continental classes where Ger Keohane (Ballinroher), scored a first and a third in both the bullock and heifer classes.
Former Courcey Rovers hurler Teddy Harrington (Ballyhandler), had first prizes in both the Hereford-Angus heifer and bullock, while Gwyn Busteed had all three prizewinners in the Friesian cow class.
RESULTS – Continental cross bullocks : 1st Gerard Keohane Ballinroher, Timoleague; 2nd Felix O’Neill Knocks, Ballineen; 3rd Gerard Keohane. Hereford-Aberdeen Angus cross bullocks: 1st Teddy Harrington, Ballyhander, Ballinspittle; 2nd Jerry Deasy Kilmacsimon, Bandon; 3rd John Twomey, Kilgobbin, Ballinadee.
Friesian cross bullocks: 1st John Twomey; 2nd David Rice Oatlands, Belgooly; 3rd Jeremiah Coughlan, Belgooly
Continental cross heifers: 1st Gerard Keohane; 2nd Tony McCarthy, Keel, Innishannon; 3rd Gerard Keohane.
Hereford-Aberdeen Angus cross heifers: 1st Teddy Harrington; 2nd John Kingston Derry, Ballineen; 3rd do. Friesian cow: 1st Gwyneth Busteed Lissaphooca, Bandon; 2nd do. 3rd do.
