SKIBBEREEN’S Darkness Into Light, in support of Pieta House, will be painting the town yellow, in order to raise awareness of mental health and prevent suicide in the locality.

The organisers are counting on all local Skibbereen businesses to paint the town and decorate their windows with yellow this May. Last year’s sterling effort raised €17,309 for Pieta House.

This will be the ninth year of Darkness Into Light walks across the country and worldwide.

A member of O’Donovan Rossa GAA team that won the All Ireland Senior Football competition 25 years ago, Ian Breen, will read an inspirational statement from Pieta House founder Joan Freeman before the walk kicks off.

The walk will take place on May 12th at 4.15am sharp, before the dawn. The walk will start at the O’Donovan Rossa GAA grounds, with the route available to view online. T-shirts will be delivered by post, to anyone who registers before May 4th. Registration can be done online at darknessintolight.ie. Live registration can also be done at the following locations: Fields’ SuperValu on May 4th and at the Skibbereen Tourist Office on May 8th, 10th and 11th.

The iconic DIL yellow t-shirts, will not be available at these registering locations, or to those who register online after May 4th. The public is urged to come out and support this worthy cause.
