OVER 5,000 ‘Christmas shoeboxes’, packed with goodies of all kinds, have left West Cork, bound for children in Odessa, in Ukraine.

Skibbereen fundraiser Sally Daly would like to sincerely thank everyone who made the Christmas Shoebox Appeal such a success again this year.

Sally has extended a special ‘thank you’ to the Carbery Showgrounds and O’Donnell Design who gave the use of their premises. She also expressed gratitude to the many parents, teachers, and schoolchildren, along with people who donated extra items, and all the wonderful knitters for the beautiful hats, scarves and gloves, that filled the boxes that will make hundreds of children’s Christmas dreams come true.

Several volunteer drivers collected the boxes from all around West Cork to bring them to one central collection point before the big truck rolled in this week to collect them.

‘A very special thanks to all the wonderful ladies who came to help check and pack the boxes on some very cold days. Without all your help this operation simply could not happen,’ she said.

A total of 5,032 shoeboxes have Skibbereen this week, bound for Odessa.
