SINN FEIN in Cork South West have chosen Bandon-Kinsale Cllr Rachel McCarthy to contest the upcoming General Election.

Cllr McCarthy was selected at a convention held at the Clonakilty Hotel in West Cork last weekend, and the convention was also attended by Liadh Ní Riada MEP and Jonathan O’Brien TD.

Speaking after the event, Cllr McCarthy said the next election ‘will be an election that will shape the political direction of this island for many years to come.’

She added that ‘the interests of ordinary people can no longer take a back seat to the interests of the political elites and the golden circles that have brought communities throughout this State to the point of ruination.’

She added that she didn’t believe that the recovery designed by the current government would benefit ‘the ordinary people of this constituency’ or the smallfarmers of Cork South West who are being ‘saddled with unfair fines while trying to carve out a living’. As there was a draw in the Cork South Central convention, it will be held later.
