A group of 5th and 6th year prefects of Kinsale Community School, they discovered you don’t need a degree in politics, or an extravagant election campaign to become a leader in your own community.

All you really need is a bit of motivation, and a man from FRS Training named John Murphy.

John is well-renowned in all corners of the country, amongst students and teachers alike, for training, informing and inspiring young leaders.

And on a memorable day last month, it was Kinsale’s turn to gain a new group of empowered, driven prefects for the coming school year.

It was emphasised to these senior students just how vital their role was, as respected role models in their school community and beyond, and what would be expected of them in terms of roles and responsibilities throughout the next few months.

John certainly made the most of his few hours with the students, demonstrating among other things, how to conduct a meeting in an efficient manner, how to ensure the successful co-operation of a team, and how to guarantee the achievement of their goals.

The students described it as an ‘eye-opening, enriching and worthwhile experience.’

They are eagerly anticipating getting their first project underway.
