MACROOM is gearing up for its fourth food festival, which takes place at the end of September.

Events have been organised for a number of indoor and outdoor venues, including the Main Square, the Castle Hotel, the Briery Gap and the Riverside Park Hotel, from Friday 25th until Sunday 27th.

A tasting menu extravaganza, taste trails, international food flavours, craft beers and ciders, a monster outdoor food market, a schools cook-off competition, interactive children’s entertainment, live music, and a ‘secret supper’ are among the attractions this year.

Since its beginnings in 2012, the festival has grown every year.

The old favourites are still in the mix, but there are a few new additions this year to maximise taste, fun and gastronomic exploration.

The weekend will kick off on Friday with a welcome ceremony followed by an ‘Artisan Affair’ at the Riverside Park Hotel to showcase the vast array of Macroom’s local produce, prepared by local chefs, working together to produce a superb tasting menu – with a large side dish of wonderful music and entertainment.

Saturday will see the children getting interactive in the Magic Garden at the Briery Gap. In the afternoon, the town will come alive with a taste trail showcasing superb local produce in the pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants around Macroom, to a soundtrack of live music on the street.

Early evening will see Macroom’s international community coming together at the International Food Flavours Marquee on the Main Square.

Later on, craft beers and ciders will take centre stage at The Castle Hotel, while Sunday will see the Square transformed into a massive outdoor food market, complete with off-the-wall children’s entertainment from Cork Circus, Sylvano the Magician, the Band of the Southern Command and more.

Students will get competitive at the Schools Cook-Off and as always, there will be plenty to eat and drink all round – from buffalo burgers to barista-style coffee and brilliant baked goods.

This year, the festival finale will be the all-new Secret Supper at a number of undisclosed venues in and around Macroom – followed by a massive festival finale party at the Castle Hotel.

Last year’s festival welcomed almost 10,000 visitors to the town over the course of the weekend
