A contract to re-open the Post Office in Leap has been secured.

A CONTRACT to re-open the Post Office in Leap has been secured.

Over two years ago, Leap Post Office closed its doors suddenly and despite a protracted campaign, it never re-opened.

However, Ger O’Sullivan of Ger’s Wild Atlantic Diner made an application to An Post a few months ago, and was successful in securing the contract. Ger has already leased a building located at Kathleen’s Corner and has enlisted the help of local woman, Kathleen Woumans.

Ger said: ‘Kathleen has already put a lot of work into it, and will run the post office. The plan is to also sell stationery and maybe run it as a gift shop, but we haven’t got that fully organised yet.’ They are hoping that it will open on October 17th next. ‘Every village needs a post office,’ he said, a sentiment echoed by Michael Collins TD, who welcomed the announcement. ‘It’s another major boost for the village,’ said the deputy.

The TD said he admires the ‘never say die’ attitude of Leap and that he was pleased that Ger O’Sullivan was successful in his application because he has already done so much to revitalise the village.
