Constitutional lawyer Alan Daveron was the keynote speaker at a recent referendum pro-life information meeting in Dunmanway, along with former MEP Kathy Sinnott.
Urging everyone present to speak out fearlessly, Kathy Sinnott said that ‘no-one must remain silent on this issue’ and said a ‘yes vote will give politicians the right to decide who should live and who should die, and would allow for the killing of hundreds of thousands of human beings for generations to come.’
Mr Daveron stressed that ‘voters are being asked to sign a blank cheque and give total power to the politicians thereby abolishing the existing right to life of the unborn acknowledged in Article 40.3.3 of the Irish Constitution.’
He said that unless people voted ‘no’ on May 25th ‘any law enacted by the Oireachtas in the future will be legal and beyond legal challenge and the Irish people will never again have a say on abortion.’
Canvassers present at the meeting, chaired by Rosarie O’Leary, who are already active on the ground, reported a steady ‘no’ vote at the doorstep and Joe Walsh, canvass co-ordinator, encouraged those present to get involved in the canvass.
Ms O’Leary concluded the meeting by commending the speakers for their presentation.
