A video promoting a Kinsale hotel and the town in winter has gone viral.

A VIDEO promoting a Kinsale hotel and the town in winter has gone viral.

The short movie, ‘Cosy Kinsale’, posted by the Blue Haven Hotel on their Facebook site, has already been seen by 56,000 people and features Irish comedian Barry Murphy.

Barry’s quirky take on Kinsale, in the voice of his German alter ego ‘Gunther Grun’, describes a winter holiday in the West Cork town.

‘We chose Barry Murphy for the video because he’s a keen golfer and loves coming to Kinsale,’ explained Blue Haven marketing manager Cassandra O’Connell. ‘He stays with us in the Blue Haven.’

She said Barry was perfect for their target audience in the Blue Haven. ‘Barry’s comedy style suited the audience we were aiming for, and he understands and knows Kinsale in both the summer and winter time and appreciates both.’

She said the hotel wanted to create something different that would showcase the town out of season. ‘We believe Kinsale can be at its most beautiful, rugged and best in winter, when the charm and cosiness of the town really comes through. We have a lot of return customers each winter who say that this is the only time they come to Kinsale, because it’s more relaxing. People don’t come to Ireland for the weather, so the idea of wrapping up and going for a long refreshing walk and then a quiet drink and some great food afterwards is an attractive proposition for many people.’

In the video, Barry is seen strolling around the town, on the pier, catching (literally) a fish, and watching paddle boarders.

The video has garnered almost 60 comments on the Facebook page, and has been shared over 500 times.

‘This small video is SO cute and brings my memories back to life,’ said Linda Hauser on Facebook. ‘Briliant advertising,’ said Christine Crowley. ‘Good work guys!’ added Barry O’Keeffe.
