Hayes' Bar in Glandore has been nominated for two Global Pub Awards.
Hayes’ Bar in Glandore has been nominated for two Global Pub Awards.
David and Julia Wine, who leased the premises in 2016, have been shortlisted for the international final, which will take at the Mansion House in Dublin on October 10th.
David confirmed: ‘We have been shortlisted in two categories – best chef and best dining experience.’
This is not the first time that Hayes’ Bar has been nominated in the competition. In 2016 it was nominated for Best Native Irish Food Pub. On that occasion, Hayes’ made it to the final three, but the overall winner was The Old Spot in Dublin, a pub with a Michelin bib.
‘We didn’t win last year but with more categories added this year, we are delighted to have made it to final ten in both categories,’ said David.
‘We are up against a lot of award-winning pubs, which surprises us, because we are just a small pub in Glandore. I guess people like that we serve good homemade food and offer plenty of choice.’
Commenting on the fact that West Cork won the Foodie Destination 2017 award and has ‘so many amazing food places and pubs’, David said they were shocked to find that they are the only pub to be nominated in all of Cork county.
Clearly David and Julie, who are originally from Dublin, hit the ground running when they took over the bar in 2016.
Having survived their first winter, David said: ‘We are determined to remain open all year. But we do have longer opening hours in the summer time.’
