SKIBBEREEN Day Care hosted students from Rath National School and singer songwriter from Baltimore, Liz Clark for a special one-off event recently called Autumn Songs.

Liz is a regular in hospitals and day care centres taking part in the arts for health partnership programme in Bantry Day Care Centre, Castletownbere Day Care Centre, Clonakilty Community Hospital, Skibbereen Community Hospital, Bantry Community Hospital and Castletownbere Community Hospital.

As a resident musician in hospitals through the programme, Liz, originally form Colorado USA,  learned many of songs performed on the day, steeped in Irish tradition from the residents themselves.  ‘These songs have withstood many generations already and now it’s about making sure they are carried through to the next generation,’ said Liz.

Arts for Health partnership programme is unique to West Cork and provides a managed arts programme for older people in healthcare settings since 2005. Managed by Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre, it runs all year round and is delivered by a team of professional artists from different disciplines.
