IT was all in a day’s duty for two members of Kinsale Garda Station when they helped deliver a baby boy in the car park at The Dock bar at Castlepark Marina in Kinsale on Tuesday morning.

Garda Tommy Boland and John Lawton were on their regular patrol in the Ballinspittle area when they got a call from base that an escort was needed for a couple who were on their way to CUH as the woman was about to give birth.

However, this baby wasn’t waiting until they got to hospital, and the couple – understood to be from the Kilbrittain area – had to stop at the car park and deliver the baby in their car.

‘Both Tommy and John arrived on the scene and assisted with a local doctor in the delivery of a baby boy and an ambulance then arrived and brought the mother and baby to CUH,’ said a garda spokesperson.

‘The two gardaí took it all in their stride as part of their duty and the newborn boy and his mother are all doing well,’ the garda added.
