A SUICIDE awareness night is being held in Bantry next week, due to the increasing rate of teenage suicide in recent years.

The night is an initiative between An Garda Síochána and the Cork Education and Training Board (CETB).

Local community garda Brigid Hartnett from Bantry Garda Station is organising the event.

It is a youth suicide awareness presentation and workshop,’ she explained.

‘Teenage suicide is a growing problem and one that has affected lots of families in our community. A representative from Youth Suicide Ireland will be present to deliver a four-step programme aimed at young people. It highlights risk factors and lists several indicators,’ Gda Hartnett pointed out.

The night is being held on Friday April 7th at 7.30pm in St Goban’s Education and Training Centre at Seskin, Bantry.

All local voluntary groups will be in attendance with information stands on the night. ‘Counsellors are being made available to anyone seeking further help and assistance in private,’ Gda Hartnett add.

‘If anyone requires any further information they can contact myself at [email protected],’ she said.
