FOUR shopping trollies and several traffic cones were just some of the items Bandon Tidy Towns volunteers found during a New Year sweep, writes Kieran O’Mahony.

A spokesperson said they filled several backs of rubbish, adding: ‘Among the things collected were four shopping trollies, which have now been returned to the various shops concerned.

We also fished out a few traffic cones out of the Bridwell River.’

They expressed disappointment that some of the new beds delivered the Bandon TPREP (Transportation & Public Realm Enhancement Plan) works have been driven through.

‘We have approached the council with a proposed solution for this but in the meantime we would ask people to take a pic or video if they see someone driving through or parked where they shouldn’t be. These works are a gift to our town and it’s up to everyone to take care of this fantastic investment in our public realm.’

The volunteers also came across smashed glass on Pearse Street and at the bottom of Kilbrogan Hill which could prove hazardous for motorists.

Rubbish including a pram and other items were also found dumped on Quay Road.

Meanwhile, the owners of The Crawford Bar on Oliver Plunkett Street said they were shocked to discover floral displays outside their premises damaged on New Year’s Day.

‘We have spent so much time and care putting them together and we were genuinely shocked to wake up to this. It has been reported to the gardaí and our CCTV is very much working,’ they posted online.
