FOUR people are being detained at Bantry and Bandon garda stations following the seizure of cocaine and chemicals used in the production of cocaine in Bantry, at 10pm on Sunday night.
A spokesperson for the gardaí confirmed that a search involving Bantry gardaí, the armed response unit, and the divisional drugs units from Cork city and Bandon, carried out the search of a house, which is in a suburban area on the outskirts of Bantry.
Two of the men are being detained under drug trafficking legislation in Bantry, and another man and one woman are being detained at Bandon garda station under the same legislation.
It is understood that all four can be detained for a seven-day period and that three of the men are originally from the Dublin area, but that the woman may have West Cork connections.
Gardaí would not indicate the value of the drugs haul other than to say that it was ‘a six-figure sum.’
The garda spokesperson also confirmed that there are ‘a lot of exhibits’ and that they will be sent for forensic examination this morning, Tuesday, November 28th.
