DARK secrets, an apparent attempted suicide, and a tangled web of lies are just some of the themes brought to life within the audio edition of Shadow Campus.

The 2013 novel of the same name, by Schull local Kathleen Reardon, which was described by Forbes magazine as a ‘masterful’ and ‘fast-paced’ debut mystery-thriller, has now been recorded as an audio book, read by West Cork actor and director Karen Minihan.

‘I loved the novel and was delighted when Kathleen asked me to take on the readings for the audio book,’ Karen told The Southern Star. ‘It was an exciting and a very different project for me, but one I was ready to embrace it. With some many characters to bring to life, it was a bit of a challenge, but it was a great experience, and I want to thank Kathleen once again for the opportunity.’

The recording took place at Kathleen’s home in Schull, and the finished readings were edited by Kathleen’s husband, Chris Reardon Noblett.

‘We made a recording studio at home in Schull. I wanted to give voice to my characters, and it was very exciting to go through the process of reading, recording and listening to the book,’ author Kathleen said. ‘Karen put her heart into the project, and it was a pleasure to hear my words and characters. It was like a play on opening night when we sat down to listen to the readings.’

The audio book will be available for download on iTunes and Amazon within the next few weeks.
