The official opening of Scoil na mBuachaillí’s new additional learning needs extension marked a significant milestone for the school renowned for its commitment to inclusive education.

The extension, named Áras Uí Mhúineacháin (the Mrs Minihan building) after former principal Noreen Minihan, was officially opened at a celebration recognising the collective effort of the school community who made the project possible.

‘This new extension is yet another example of Scoil na mBuachaillí’s commitment to inclusive education,’ Minister for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity and Cork South West Deputy Christopher O’Sullivan said.

A former student of the school, Minister O’Sullivan said naming the extension after Mrs Minihan was fitting and described the lasting impact she had on him.

‘Mrs Minihan was my first class teacher and school principal back in the 90s. Her nature table was famous,’ he said.

‘She inspired so many, and she still does. That is why it is only proper that the new wing at Scoil na mBuachailli in Clonakilty has been named after her.

‘A huge congratulations to the school, and the tireless work of the community that supports it in seeing this project through to completion. Norma Harte and her entire staff are a credit to the school. The care and attention they give to students really shines through.’
