Courses in the management of Type II diabetes

A SERIES of free education sessions for people with Type II diabetes is planned for Clonakilty and Skibbereen this February. 

X-PERT will be led by local HSE community dietitians in conjunction with GPs.

The aim of the course is to educate people who have diabetes so that they can best manage their condition, allowing them to improving their health and increasing their control over their diabetes.The six-week course consists of a 2.5 hour educational session each week. It covers healthy eating, getting active, weight management and other aspects important in diabetes. There are lots of practical tips and participants learn from each other. The sessions are friendly and relaxed. People who attend have made positive improvements to their weight, diabetes control and report feeling more confident in looking after their health.

A participant in a recent XPERT programme in Bantry said, ‘I am so pleased that I completed this course. It has changed my way of life and now I can food shop with ease.’

The Clonakilty and Skibbereen XPERT courses start in February 2017. Bernie Nagle will be conducting the Clonakilty course, which starts on the 7th, while the course in Skibbereen is run by Ciara Nagle and will start on February 23rd.
