Cork South West FG TD Jim Daly has confirmed that the Clonakilty Flood Defence Project will go to tender in the next ten days.

CORK South West FG TD Jim Daly has confirmed that the Clonakilty Flood Defence Project will go to tender in the next ten days.

Deputy Daly announced this week that detailed design is all but complete on the scheme, to be followed by a procurement process for a civil works contractor.

‘The progress on the confirmation of this flood relief project forms part of a hat-trick of flood defence schemes to protect West Cork, with similar schemes in both Bandon and Skibbereen towns, which commenced construction earlier this year. The people of West Cork have waited more than 50 years for these flood protections, something that was not prioritised by previous administrations through times when cash was a plenty,’ said Deputy Daly.

‘For the Clonakilty Scheme, it is hoped to commence the procurement process for a contractor in the next ten days and to publish the project on e-tenders.

‘At the same time, the scheme will be submitted to Minister Paschal Donohoe, for formal confirmation under the Arterial Drainage Acts. The residents and business people of Clonakilty can look forward to seeing the shovels in the ground next year, which is great news for all concerned,’ the deputy added.
