HILLARY and Teresa Lordan of the Parish Field took the overall and residential honours at the prize-giving for the 2015 Collins, Brooks & Associates Window-Box and Hanging Basket Competition.

At the ceremony at the Quality Hotel, all entrants were praised for their beautiful floral displays in the latest edition of the competition, initiated by the late Liam Collins in 1985. Hillary and Teresa were presented with the Collins Rose Bowl by Elizabeth O’Sullivan and Helen Collins, daughters of Liam.

Ms Roni Collins, representing the sponsors whose unbroken financial support has endured, congratulated all the groups who work together in harmony, and in particular those whose civic pride is the fore annually.

These sentiments were echoed by Cllr Christopher O’Sullivan, in attendance in his official roles as chairperson of the Western Municipal District and Clonakilty Chamber of Commerce.

Town Mayor Cionnaith Ó Súilleabháin officially launched the 2016 competition and presented the contents of an information flyer which will be circulated shortly to residents and businesses. Eileen Kingston, on behalf of the organising committee, thanked everybody concerned, especially Mr Justin England, municipal district officer for West Cork, and the staff at Halla an Bhaile.
